Its been a little while since my last post however I am happy to confirm that the porteous.org web site is back on line.
A little while ago I commissioned an engineer to overhaul the hardware that is used to host this web site including the development of a reliable backup solution....
I had a good plan but the plan fell over when the engineer left the company he was working for.
As you can see the porteous.org web site is back with a slightly different look and feel.

New community forum features
Based on your feedback, we have added a couple of new features to porteous.org, the most significant being a threaded discussion forum.
A forum is an online discussion group, where registered participants with common interests can exchange open messages, post ideas, suggestions, questions and answers.
The forum can also be searched so in time as the community grows so will is value to genealogy researches.
What family number are you?
I have been keeping my ear to the ground and have received a suggestion to add "Family Number" to the user database. Fortunately the CMS we are using allows us to create custom fields that suit this feature.
The Family Number illustrates how porteous family groups are distributed throughout the globe.
An Inconvenient Truth - Climate Crisis
I have just returned to Australia from a business trip to Beijing and Shanghai in the Peoples Republic of China.
My flight to China was with Australia's Qantas airlines, one the world's safest airlines.
While on the flight I took advantage of the in flight entertainment and watch a movie called An Inconvenient Truth starring former US vice president Al Gore.
The movie is a MUST WATCH if you are concerned about the climate crisis we face globally.
The movie has a slight US perspective but the message is global.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch this movie... even if some of the facts are only half true, then YOU! should be concerned...
Porteous online genealogy database
I've received a few emails asking I could host a online genealogy database, while I'm happy to add the feature, i would need your help to load the data.
After a quick google search, I have found a few web based applications that are feature rich and simple to use.
If you are interested in helping develop an online (secure) genealogy database, then drop me a line.
Based on your interest and support, I'll invest the money in extra software. Let me know your thoughts..
