What family number are you?

I have been keeping my ear to the ground and have received a suggestion to add "Family Number" to the user database. Fortunately the CMS we are using allows us to create custom fields that suit this feature.

The Family Number illustrates how porteous family groups are distributed throughout the globe.

Bloggers

I am writing a feature article on family blogs and the genealogical content of this blog comes under my purview. I was hoping that the site administrator could contact me for an online interview.
Thanks in anticipation

Porteous online genealogy database

31Aug2006

I've received a few emails asking I could host a online genealogy database, while I'm happy to add the feature, i would need your help to load the data.

After a quick google search, I have found a few web based applications that are feature rich and simple to use.

If you are interested in helping develop an online (secure) genealogy database, then drop me a line.

Based on your interest and support, I'll invest the money in extra software. Let me know your thoughts..

Porteous Family History

The Porteous Family is an ancient Scottish Borders family. The earliest records for members of the Porteous family in Peeblesshire date back to the early part of the fifteenth century.

The exact origins of the name are unknown. The name entered the history books in the 15th century in Peebleshire and Fife. John Porteous, Captain of the Edinburgh City Guard, ordered his men to fire on a mob which was demonstrating at the execution of a smuggler in 1736, killing several people. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to death, but then reprieved. However, he was later seized from prison by a mob, who hanged him from the pole outside a dyer's shop.
